Dr. Kristen Berdan hails from the coast of Maine but has been practicing all over the country since she graduated in 2001 from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine. She received advanced credentialing in 2008 with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. Before becoming medical director here at Church Ranch Veterinary Hospital, she practiced in both general and specialty practice as well as spending many years as a relief doctor. This has allowed her to blend many modalities of practice into keeping pets healthy as well as helping them be their best at all life stages. Every day is different here at the hospital which keeps things interesting and fun! Kristen shares her life with her husband and two teenage children. Her family also revolves around their dogs, cats, and a lovely Guinea pig. Colorado has been a wonderful place to explore and create long lasting connections with patients and their people.
Dr. Isabella Gaidis is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, but has taken every opportunity to travel and live all over the country. She went to the University of Vermont for her undergraduate studies, during which she spent a semester living in Florence, Italy, and then moved to Ann Arbor Michigan (Go Blue!) after graduating a semester early! She then moved back to her home state and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 2021. During her studies, Dr. Gaidis had the amazing opportunity to travel to South Africa with a few of her classmates and worked with local veterinarians in the bush! After graduating, Dr. Gaidis took a leap, moved to North Carolina, and went straight into the world of after-hours veterinary urgent care, thriving in the chaos of not knowing what to expect every day. She is passionate about client education and the role that owners play in their pet’s life, knowing that the best care involves the whole TEAM! Now, living in Colorado, Isabella’s life is filled with adventures with her (NEW!) husband and their two dogs Kona and Leonidas.
Dr. Caglianone grew up in rural eastern Pennsylvania around a wide variety of domestic and wild animals which sparked an interest in animal care from an early age. Additionally, he has kept a wide range of conventional and exotic pets during his life, which is a large part of why he wants to ensure all pets regardless of the species receive the care they need and deserve. He graduated from Auburn University with a dual major in Organismal Biology and Marine Biology in 2018, and again from the Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. While in school he spent a great deal of time at the Auburn Raptor Center rehabilitating injured and orphaned raptors, as well as taking every exotic centered elective he could find. Not long after graduating he relocated to Colorado after visiting it with his wife frequently for many years. His professional interests are in exotic animal medicine including reptiles, amphibians, birds, small mammals, and fish, but he also greatly values canine and feline surgery and preventative medicine. Dr. James believes that the bond between human and an exotic pet can be just as strong and is just as important as a bond between a dog or cat, therefore they also deserve the highest standard of care.
In his personal time, he enjoys woodworking, hiking, nature photography, gardening, and pretty much anything that gets him outside. He relocated to Denver with his wife Rachel, his two dogs Argo and Shadow, his cat Smudge, a ball python named Linguine, and a whole mess of fish. Since relocating, a box turtle named Galileo and two doves (Nimbus and Diego) have joined Dr. Caglianone's family.
Dr. Eury Rice is originally from the Boston area, but spent her childhood summers in the mountains of Colorado.
She obtained her BA in Environmental Studies and Ecological Design from Oberlin College, with the aspiration of becoming an architect of barns that could ensure the wellbeing of animals, farmers and the environment. While working on a sheep farm in Carlisle, England and a dairy farm in Carlisle, Massachusetts, to get first-hand knowledge of the challenges, she realized that her true calling was to be a veterinarian. So, she switched gears and pursued a veterinary career, receiving her BS in biology from MSU Denver and then her DVM from Colorado State University.
Dr. Eury is forever in awe of the human-animal bond, and deeply appreciates the opportunity to partner with owners to provide the best care for their pets. Though it is almost impossible to choose her particular clinical interests, soft-tissue surgery, dermatology and geriatric patient care are at the top of her list. She lives in Denver with her young family, which includes 2 dogs, 3 cats and a jungle of plants. When not working as a vet, she enjoys many DIY projects around her home, maybe as an architect of her “barn.”
Dr. Katrina Knepler is an experienced small animal and exotics veterinarian with more than 22 years in clinical practice, including eight years as a practice owner. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 2002, she moved to Colorado to launch her career and build a life for her family. Dr. Knepler is known for her expertise in veterinary dentistry—her primary passion—as well as her skill in challenging dermatology cases, behavior, and clear, compassionate client communication.
Her approach emphasizes efficiency, customer service, and delivering high-quality, relationship-centered care. Dr. Knepler loves connecting with clients and believes in educating pet owners to help them make confident decisions for their companions.
Outside the clinic, she enjoys everything the outdoors has to offer—camping, skiing, gardening, participating in 4-h — and embraces a lively home life with her two children, two dogs, a cat, fish, a guinea pig, and four chickens.
